J&K Wakf Board runs 14 schools, 3 nursing colleges

The State Wakf Board, the second richest institution in J&K after state government, is planning to set up a diagnostic centre in Kashmir.

The Board Vice Chairman, G R Sufi said keeping intoconsideration demands of people they were planning to establish the diagnosticfacility for people.

   

An RTI filed by an activist, MM Shuja with the Board hasrevealed that the Board has 14 schools/college with 4849 students enrolled inthem. At least 243 teachers/ lecturers and 116 non –teaching staff are workingin these institutes.

The Board has three Darul-ulooms in which 53 students arestudying. Five teachers and five non-teaching members are posted there.

Besides, the Board has 44 “part time Darasgahs” in which3000 students are studying, who are taught by 46 Moulims.

The Board counts Bibi Halima College of Nursing andTechnology as one of its achievement. “The Wakf Board is running a 4-year B.SC(Nursing) and a 4-year Post Basic Nursing Programme at Bibi Halima College ofNursing and Medical Technology (BHCNMT) Srinagar. It has been cleared forintroducing M.SC (Nursing) to add up 50 more seats in B.SC Nursing,” reads theRTI.

It said that to be able to handle increased intake ofstudents and introduce higher courses, the College was being shifted to a newcampus at Kathidarwaza, here which is currently under construction at anestimated cost of Rs 9.50 core.

The Board has also set up two more nursing colleges –Alamdar College of Nursing at Charar –I- Sharief and Mantaqui Memorial NursingCollege at Awantipora.

The RTI activist had sought details about educational institutions,professional colleges, universities, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Orphanges,Musafir Khans established by the Board, along with details of income andexpenditures.

The Board, as per the RTI, has 1753 kanals and 14 marlas oforchard land and 8377.15 kanals of forest land.

The Board has received Rs 12.34 core donation in cash lastfinancial year, Rs 3.12 core donation in kind and Rs 4.46 core license fee.

The Board’s agricultural income was Rs 83.55 lakh lastfinancial year and the income generated from schools was Rs 2.35 crore. Therevenue generated from other source including bank interest, old material,Indent fee amounts to Rs 2.11 crore for 2017-18.
