Modi Govt betrayed refugees: Congress

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma on Saturday blamed Modi government of betrayal with the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that BJP and other parties shed “crocodile tears” on the displaced persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and refugees of 1947 only during elections.

He said that after long struggle of these sections of the society, the Congress party succeeded in persuading state government for recommending a package of Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia relief to each family besides three other components like reservation in professional courses and jobs in central forces as well coverage of the left out families.

“BJP, which used to claim that it will grant not less than Rs 30 lakh per family besides sanctioning other items in the package, has befooled these DPs and refugees, after coming to power,” he said.

“The process of disbursement of Rs 5.5 lakh to the DPs is quite unsatisfactory and still large numbers of families are deprived of this small amount against the full package,” he added.
