NEET PG 2018: MD/MS merit list awaited; BOPEE issues seat matrix

J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) has uploaded the e-brochure for admission process to postgraduate courses in the state medical and dental colleges, although the state merit list for MD/MS is awaited. The online registration has started for MDS, result whereof has been received by the BOPEE.

BOPEE on Wednesday declared open the admission process for MDS in Government Dental College Srinagar. Aspirants, who have qualified NEET MDS would be able to fill admission forms from 23-02-2018 till 01-03-2018, the notification issued by BOPEE on 21 February said. There are 12 seats for MDS in the state.

The examination board, which is responsible for counseling and admission to MD/MS and PG Diploma courses, apart from other professional courses also uploaded e-information brochure on its website. However, candidates might not be able to know whether they stand a chance of securing a seat for now as the BOPEE was yet to receive the results of J&K candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE).

In absence of the results, all the dates announced in e-brochure were tentative, the BOPEE said.

Chairman BOPEE, Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari said, “We have come to know that state results would take some time. As soon as we have the results, we will start the registration process for MD/MS.” He added that the provisional state merit list (PSML) would follow the registration process.

“The PSML shall be … inclusive of marks for which a candidate may be eligible as in respect of difficult area/remote service rendered by the candidate as per SRO 49 of 2018 dated 30-01-2018 and in accordance with the MCI regulations. Only such candidates shall be eligible for award of Difficult Area Marks (DAM), who have secured the qualifying marks as fixed by the NBE” BOPEE has said.

Not everyone who has secured the qualifying marks in NEET PG would be allowed to register. BOPEE may restrict the number of candidates to 2.5 times the number of available seats.

“Board may restrict number of candidates to fill in Preference Forms to at least 2.5 times number of seats available. However, a final decision in this regard shall be taken after the Provisional State Merit List is notified and candidates would be informed also.”

Although, aspirants in state are awaiting announcement of increase of seats, BOPEE has, for now, announced the tentative seat matrix.

Bukhari said that increase in seats, when communicated to BOPEE by the respective medical colleges, would reflect in seat matrix and admission would be made against those seats, as per the already notified process. “For now, we have no communication of seat increase,” he said.

Currently, there are 394 MD/MS seats available in the state medical colleges, against which the admissions are to be made.

Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has the highest number of seats – 127, followed by GMC Jammu (125) and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (124).

In addition, there are 56 PG Diploma seats in total in these three medical colleges.

Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences Jammu has 18 MD/MS seats, 9 in open merit, and 9 in categories, including those reserved for non-resident Indians.
