NIA summon to Mirwaiz a direct interference into religious affairs: AAC

Awami Action Committee on Monday termed NIA summons to its patron and chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as “direct interference” into religious affairs.

In a statement here an AAC spokesman said that an extraordinary meeting of SSC leaders, activists and party workers was held at partyheadquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal under the leadership of senior leaderMuhammad Shafi Khan to discuss the NIA notice to the AAC patron and HurriyatConference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq asking him to present himselfbefore NIA in New Delhi.

   

“The meeting expressed serious concern over the NIA noticesent to harass the Mirwaiz who is not just the political leader of people, butthe Mirwaiz of Kashmir- an institution that has nurtured the spiritual andreligious identity of Kashmir, doing great work in the social and educationalupliftment of its people,” the statement said.

“People of Kashmir have a great reverence and respect forthe Mirwaiz and a deep emotional bond with him,” it added.

The AAC termed the NIA notice to Mirwaiz as a “directinterference in religious identity of Kashmir and an attempt to cause grief tothe sentiment of lakhs of Kashmiri people.”

“Political stand of the party which the Mirwaiz heads isbased on truth and represents the political sentiments of the people. We firmlybelieve that summon is an attempt to harass our leader. The AAC will alwayscontinue to follow the path of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue inaccordance with the people’s wishes,” the statement quoted participants ashaving said.

“The state government every other day arbitrarily cages theMirwaiz and on the other hand NIA is being building pressure on him to forcehim into a submission,” the statement added.
