Pensioners and Senior Citizens’ Association hail SWD

The Pensioners and Senior Citizens’ Association held a meeting where several issues concerning pensioners and senior citizens were discussed, a spokesman of the association said.

The meeting, which was presided over by Abdul Gani Parray,said the inaugural ceremony of the Golden Daycare Centre, which was to be heldon Tuesday, 19 March 2019, was postponed due to some reasons. The participantssaid that in recognition of the long-pending demand of the association underthe chairmanship of well-known trade union leader Sampat Prakash, thegovernment had enacted the Parents and Senior Citizens’ Maintenance Act in2019. They said the rules had been worked out on 18 December 2018 and the fundshad been sanctioned and approved for the establishment of the Golden DaycareCentre at Srinagar and Jammu.

   

Both centres for the elderly will have a physician,psychiatrist, therapist and other basic needs. The meeting hailed the socialwelfare department for setting up the centre.

Besides this centre, the association has succeeded inmotivating the administration for implementation of healthcare insurance schemefor the senior citizens of the state and the notification in this regard isexpected to be issued soon, the spokesman said. The association has demandedenhancement in medical allowance. The meeting was told that increase in basicpension at the rate of 20 per cent shall have the age limit from 70 to 100 years.
