Photojournalist Dar Yasin bags ‘Hal Boyle award’

Kashmir-based photojournalist Dar Yasin, working with Associated Press (AP), has been conferred with “Hal Boyle Award” for his coverage with a team of eight AP photojournalists for reporting on the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar, according to the AP reports.

“AP documented the methodical rape of Rohingya women by the country’s armed forces, revealed the army’s slaughter of Rohingya women and children, and told the story of a desperate young father who tried to save his family by fleeing,” it said.

“The Hal Boyle Award is named for the AP columnist who earned a Pulitzer in 1945 for his distinguished World War II reporting.”

“This is Dar’s third award this year,” a statement here said.

Earlier, he was honoured with prestigious Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar award and NPPA’s Humanitarian Award, which is given to an individual for playing key role in the saving of lives or in rescue situations.

“Dar’s work on Rohingya exodus was among the top pictures of 2017 in almost all news portals,” it said.
