Polio drops given to thousands of children in Kargil district

Kargil, Mar 3: The Pulse Polio immunisation drive was held in Kargil district of Ladakh to administer polio vaccine to children under age of 5 years.

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse on Sunday inaugurated the intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation drive at Old District Hospital Kargil. At the event, the CEC emphasised the significance of administering polio drops to children below the age of five years, underscoring the lifelong protection it provides against polio.

   

CEC Dr Jaffer urged parents to proactively take their children to the nearby health booths to ensure their well-being and safety. Furthermore, he directed officials to ensure comprehensive coverage during door-to-door visits.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil highlighted the deployment of special teams to remote areas to guarantee complete immunization coverage for children. He stressed the importance of achieving 100 percent coverage of the target population under the Pulse Polio Immunization drive and appreciated the efforts of health department. It was informed that 15,136 children below five years would receive polio drops in 384 polio booths across all blocks, with a workforce of 1,540 personnel, along with 10 mobile teams and 45 vehicles, including those serving Zanskar.

Later, CMO Kargil extended gratitude to all stakeholders for their support and participation. Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, District Tuberculosis Officer, doctors, paramedical staff, officials of health department, senior citizens, and parents were present.
