Project Beacon completes 59 years of service in J&K

Project Beacon, the pioneer flagship project of BRO, on Sunday successfully completed its 59 years of service to the nation in Jammu and Kashmir, a statement said.

It said that the project Beacon was raised in 1960, as thefirst project in entire Jammu & Kashmir state, the project has evolved overthe years, carving three more Projects out of its area of responsibility.”Presently, project Beacon looks after road infrastructure development andmaintenance in the important areas of Kashmir, connecting it to Jammu to thesouth and Ladakh region to the east through the strategically important passesof Jawahar tunnel and Zojila pass respectively. The project works in the mostrugged terrain and inhospitable climate in altitudes ranging between 5000′ –12000 meters,” the statement said. Addressing the troops, Chief EngineerBrigadier Vishal Aggarwal complimented all ranks and civil labourers foroutstanding performance and efficiently maintaining the strategic passes openfor maximum duration, despite heaviest snowfall this year in a decade. “Duerecognition was given to all the personnel who excelled in their respectivework and sports activities. Project Beacon will always put its best footforward in service to the nation and to help the people of the Valley in theirendeavors,” he added.
