Rabid dog attack leaves 17 injured in Baramulla’s Narwav village

Baramulla, Mar 14:  At least 17 persons were injured after a rabid dog went on a rampage in the Narwav area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

The injured were shifted to the Primary Health Centre Sheeri where three critically injured were shifted to Associated Hospital Government Medical College Baramulla for advanced treatment.

   

The locals said that panic gripped the Fatehgarh, Heewan, and Sheeri villages of Narwaw after a rabid dog went on a biting spree, injuring 17 persons including men, women, and children. An eyewitness said that the incident happened at around 10 am on Thursday.

He said that when people were heading for daily routine work, a rabid dog suddenly appeared in the Heewan village and started biting people.

He said following the incident, panic gripped the entire area and people started taking shelter in the nearby houses and shops.

He said that the rabid dog also entered Fatehgarh and Sheeri villages, biting all those who tried to confront it.

The injured were immediately shifted to the Public Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri where they were given first aid.

However, three of the critically injured were shifted to Associated Hospital Government Medical College Baramulla where they were treated for the injuries.

A Medical Officer at PHC Sheeri said, “All the injured were provided treatment at the health centre, however, three of the injured had suffered deep wounds on arms and legs and were shifted to GMC Baramulla.”
