Rally against drug abuse, illicit trafficking held in Handwara

Kupwara, June 26: An awareness rally against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was carried by Chemist and Drug Association Handwara in collaboration with the Drug Controller Department in Handwara on Saturday.

The rally started from District Hospital Handwara and passed through main market before it culminated at HandwaraChowk.

   

Several members of the Chemist and Drug Association Handwara, officials from Drug Controller Department and civil society members were part of the rally.

The aim of the rally was to spread awareness among the common people about the harmful effects of drugs and most importantly to bring awareness among the parents to have a close vigil of their children so that they do not fall prey to any untoward situation with regard to drug addition.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of the rally, Assistant Drug Controller for Baramulla and Kupwara district Muhammad Bashir Banday said that media had an important role to play to create awareness against the ill effects of drugs.

He said that the youth must spot the difference between good and bad and not get entangled in this menace.

“Taking out a rally can’t be a concrete step to deal with the growing drug addiction but a message is being delivered that we all should have to rise to the situation to deal with the alarmimg situation of drug addition,” he said.

President of Chemist and Drug Association HandwaraMushtaq Ahmad Tantry urged the people to take care of their children and to let them not fall into the hands of this nuisance.

Drug Controller Officer IshtiyaqHussain Baba, civil and Police officers were also present on the occasion.
