RR celebrates ‘5th Veterans’ Day’ at Bhaderwah

Rashtriya Rifles based at Bhaderwah celebrated the ‘5th Veterans’ Day’ on Monday.

The day is celebrated to mark the day when the first field marshall general KM Cariappa retired from service.

   

A rally was organised by the 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at battalion headquarters Sarna in Bhaderwah for ex-servicemen, war veterans, specially-abled soldiers and war widows. More than 100 veterans and war widows participated in the rally.

“The rally provided a platform to the ex-servicemen and war widows to put forth their issues related to pension, medical, healthcare, re-employment and redressal of grievances at local level,” army said, adding that the rally was another stepping stone towards supporting welfare schemes and measures for improvement and upliftment of the veterans, war widows and gallantry award winners of the region.

Addressing the participants, officiating commanding officer Lt Col K Sreenivasulu said, “Veterans are an essential part of the armed forces family. They are the keepers of our values and culture and it is our duty to respect and honour them as they are an unbreakable link between the present and the past.”

The commanding officer also dwelt upon different welfare measures taken by the government for the well-being of the veterans.

“Army is also planning to hold a pre-Republic Day run on January 25, followed by a cultural programme at Lake View Resort, Bhaderwah, in collaboration with Bhaderwah development authority and All India Radio Bhaderwah,” the officiating CO said.

On the occasion, a medical checkup was also conducted and free medicines were distributed among the participants.
