Schools reopen after winter break

Barring southern districts, educational institutions reopened across Kashmir on Saturday after over three-month-long winter break.

An official told Greater Kashmir that schools in southern districts in the Valley would reopen on March 12 (Monday).

In Srinagar, children were seen draped in their colorful school uniforms waiting for their buses at their respective stops. Highway and link roads witnessed huge traffic movement as the school buses ferried the children to schools.

“We are happy that our schools have reopened after over two month break,” said Ayan, a class 3 student of Burn Hall School Srinagar.

“It feels good to see friends in schools after a long time,” he said.

A class 5 student, Mujeeb, said he missed his school and his friends.

“We enjoy at home also but school is more fun,” he said.

Schools were scheduled to reopen on March 5. However, authorities delayed the opening in wake of the killing of four civilians in army firing at Pahnoo in Shopian district.

On the first day, director school education Kashmir G N Itoo also visited several city schools and interacted with students of a few model kindergarten schools established by the department.
