Slapping PSA on Mushtaq Veeri undemocratic: Qayoom Wani

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Qayoom Wani on Sunday expressed dismay at the arrest of Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and slapping of PSA on him.

Wani in a statement  questioned the acts where the religious scholars like Veeri  are arrested and imprisoned under Public Safety Act.  “Such acts could be detrimental  and will create more alienation among the people,” he said.

Wani demanded immediate release of Veeri and all Jamaat-e-islami leaders arrested during the past few days.  “It is shocking to see the double standards of the dispensation. On one hand the government speaks about democratic principles but at the other hand uproots the bases of the democratic set-up by silencing the voices of socio political and religious organisations,” he added.

Wani also condemned the massacre in Christchurch New Zealand where 49 innocent people were martyred during prayers in a Masjid.

Wani said that the entire humanity should condemn the barbaric act and demanded that killer should be hanged in broad daylight so that such inhuman acts may not occur in future.
