Soldiers along LoC celebrate Diwali amid border vigil

Soldiers in operational units guarding the Line of Control were busy since Tuesday morning preparing to celebrate the festival of Diwali while maintaining a tight vigil along the border.

“We spend nine months of a year with our fellowmen and are more attached with them than our families back home. Celebrating the festival together further energises our synergy and bonding,” a solider deployed along LoC told Greater Kashmir.

The soldiers manning border posts say they keep a hawk’s eye on the enemy and intensified vigil so that the nation can celebrate the festival in peace.

Another solider said that at operational units centralised celebrations were not possible because they were always under the radar of the enemy.

But to celebrate the spirit of the festival, officers visit each and every post and distribute sweets among the jawans.

“As weather is changing and there are more chances of infiltration from across through south of Pir Panchal the forces are ready to deal with any adverse situation,” a soldier said.

“We are always ready to respond appropriately, if enemy initiates cross-border firing on the Line of Control or try to infiltrate.”

Soldiers say a sense of responsibility given to them keeps them motivated and strong in difficult situations.

“I’m not celebrating the Diwali festival with my family but I am happy that my family and countrymen celebrate peaceful Diwali with their loved ones,” another solider posted in forward area said.

“If my nation remains secure only then our families will feel safe and be able to celebrate all the festivals and for that I am always ready to sacrifice myself.”
