Sumbal College students protest for reduction in syllabi

The final year students of Degree College Sumbal in Bandipora district Monday staged a protest inside the college premises here to demand reduction of syllabi for fifth and sixth semester examinations scheduled for July this year.

The protesters, both boys and girls, were holding placards reading: “We want justice”, “semester system failed in J&K.”

“If Kashmir University has decided to combine 5th and 6th semesters, it should reduce the syllabi of both the semesters”, Mohammad Saleem, a student said.

“We have only two months left for the examination. How can we complete syllabi of both semesters when we have not yet completed the syllabus of one semester,” he asked.

The students raised slogans against the Kashmir University accusing it of putting the carrier of thousands of students at stake.

The students said the result of their first semester backlog subjects conducted in 2015 “is yet to be declared. The university is yet to conduct exam of second and third semester backlog subjects.”

“We tried to come out on the road to block it for the traffic, but the college authorities prevented us,” said a student.
