Temperatures drop across J&K

Srinagar, Nov 29: While the temperatures across J&K witnessed a drop, some of the higher reaches on Wednesday received fresh snowfall and the Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted precipitation during the next 24 hours.

The MeT officials here said that some of the higher reaches including Gulmarg ski-resort of Baramulla district, Pir Panchal range including Sinthan Top received intermittent light snowfall.

   

“The weather remained cloudy across J&K on Wednesday and there was very scattered precipitation,” officials said. “There are chances of light to moderate rain or snow at fairly widespread places with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning at a few places during Wednesday night and on Thursday.”

Officials said J&K is under the influence of a feeble Western Disturbance which is likely to bring light to moderate rain or snow in the middle and higher reaches across J&K.

The officials said that on December 1 and 2, weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy, from December 3, generally cloudy, and from December 4 to 7, partly to generally cloudy.

The MeT officials said that Srinagar recorded a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius against 3.9 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.7 degrees Celsius above normal in the city.

officials said that Gulmarg Ski-resort recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius against minus 0.2 degrees Celsius and the latest temperature was 1.3 degrees Celsius above normal.

They said that the Pahalgam health resort in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius same as the previous night which was 1.9 degrees Celsius above normal.

The officials said that Kokernag health resort in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 2.6 degrees Celsius against 2.8 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was above normal for the place by 3 degrees Celsius.

They said that Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir recorded a minimum of 0.8 degrees Celsius against 3.8 degrees Celsius the previous night while the minimum temperature was 1.8 degrees Celsius below normal for the area.

Officials said that Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of 1.3 degrees Celsius against 3 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 2.4 degrees Celsius above normal.
