Territorial Army celebrates 69th Raising Day

The Territorial Army (TA) also known as the “Citizens’ Army,” celebrated its Raising Day at Udhampur on Tuesday, an army spokesman said.

He said, “It was on this day in 1949, under the first Governor General Rajagopalachari that the Territorial Army was raised.  It was conceived as an opportunity for civilians to serve in uniform, fulfilling a desire of many to become citizen-soldiers.”

   

The spokesman said, ” The TA has evolved over the years, enhancing its role to include ecological tasks and very recently in  ‘National Mission Clean Ganga’.  Operationally, the TA units of Jammu and Kashmir have contributed in providing safe and secure environment for civilians in areas where they are deployed.”

On the 69th Raising Day, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander , complimented all members of the TA fraternity for their devotion towards duty and indomitable spirit while working under trying and difficult conditions.
