A group of masked men on Friday tried to snatch the rifle of a J&K Bank guard in Khrew township in Pulwama district.
An eye-witness said two masked men attacked the guard. “The alert guard resisted but was injured in the attack. He was later shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment,” he said.

Forces cordoned off the area and launched manhunt to nab the attackers. The bank administration also halted the service for some time and later resumed it.
Police, however, denied the weapon snatching incident. “I do not think it was weapon snatching bid but a scuffle between bank guard and two persons,” said an official. “We have started the investigation to ascertain the reason behind the scuffle.”
