Wet weather forecast from today

Weatherman Wednesday forecast another spell of snow for the rest of this week, as a cold wave continued its grip on Kashmir Valley, with the ski-resort of Gulmarg recording a low of minus 10 degree Celsius.

“In most parts of Kashmir, the minimum temperatures dropped below the freezing point because of the clear night sky. The weather will remain dry in the state up to Thursday,” a Met official said here.  “From Thursday evening we are expecting another spell (of snow) and then weather will improve on Sunday.”

The Met official said that the minimum temperature in Srinagar fell to minus 3 degree Celsius, while Qazigund on the southern end of the Valley recorded a low of minus 2.6 degree Celsius, up by nearly one degree from the previous night.

Kokernag, the official said, registered a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius, while Kupwara in northern Kashmir settled at minus 3.0 degree Celsius.

Tourist resort Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.0 degree Celsius Tuesday night.

Kargil was the coldest in the state at minus 15.6 degree Celsius as Leh recorded minus 9.9 degree Celsius.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained open for one-way traffic on Wednesday. Traffic plied from Srinagar to Jammu and no vehicle, including security forces’ convoys, was allowed from the opposite direction, a traffic police official said.

The official said both light motor and heavy motor vehicles will be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on Thursday.
