‘Jungle raj’ in Kashmir, says Mehbooba Mufti on highway ban, assault on magistrate

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that ‘jungle raj’ is prevailing in Kashmir.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an election meetingin southern district of Anantnag, Mehbooba said: “No law exists in Kashmir. Thethrashing of SDM along with his employees, highway has been closed, inmates arebeaten in the jails, bodies recovered during the encounters are being mutilatedand are burnt by chemicals.”

   

Mehbooba said it doesn’t seem that the people of Jammu andKashmir have acceded to the country which Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and MaharajaHari Singh had chosen. “The country we had acceded to was equal for all Sikhs,Muslims and Hindus,” Mehbooba said.

She said that ordering ban on the civilian movement on thehighway was nothing short of dictatorship. She also condemned the thrashing ofa magistrate allegedly by the army on the Anantnag highway.

She said that she had clearly told Prime Minister NarendraModi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh that if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)tinkers with the special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir then PDP willhave no option but to leave the government.
