Sopore gunfight over, militant killed

The gunfight has ended in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulladistrict with the killing of a militant on Saturday, reports said.

Local newsgathering agency GNS, quoting a senior police official, said amilitant was killed in a brief gunfight. He said arms and ammunition were alsorecovered from his possession.

   

A police officer identified the slain as Waseem Ahmad Naik son of AbdulGani Naik of Udipora Barsoo Awantipora, reported GNS.

Quoting sources, it said, Waseem went missing in March this year. The family had had filed a missing report at the concerned police station.

Earlier, army’s 22 RR and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation inHathlangoo village following specific information about the presence ofmilitants inside a residential house.

Authorities suspended the mobile Internet services in Sopore town as a precautionary measure in wake of the operation.
