The Coded Poet
Zareefa Jan is perhaps the only poet in the world who records her verses in circles. Hailing from Bandipora district in north Kashmir, Jan (55) says her poetic journey began decades ago while she went to a nearby stream carrying a pitcher on her head to fetch water. On her way back home, Jan was no longer the same average woman. “Everything became so dark. I took out a pen and started scribbling circles…” she says.
