Two militants killed in pre-dawn gunfight in Shopian

Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Satipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district early Sunday.

A senior police officer told news agency GNS that the encounter broke out at Hend Satipora village during wee hours after a joint team of the army’s 34 RR, Special Operations Group and the CRPF cordoned off the area.

   

The cordon was laid following credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area, the officer said.

He said that during the course of gunfight both the militants hiding in the area were killed.

The bodies of the slain were recovered along with as many weapons and other war like stores, the officer said.

A police official identified the slain as Aadil Bashir Wani, resident of Waripora DH Pora Kulgam and Javaid Ahmad Bhat, resident of Redwani Qaimoh Kulgam. Sources said that both the militants were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit.

Meanwhile, in wake of the encounter the authorities have snapped the Internet services in the southern district.
