At least three people were killed and 50 others missing after a boat capsized in a river in northern Pakistan on Wednesday.
The vessel was heading for the city of Haripur when itcapsized at around midday in a reservoir along the Indo River. Seven peoplewere rescued and three bodies were recovered by emergency teams.
“Around 50 to 60 people were on board the boat when itcapsized,” Mujtaba Arfat, Assistant Commissioner of the city, told Efenews.
“Apparently (the boat) capsized because ofoverloading,” he added. He said that the accident site is not accessibleby road, meaning that rescue teams could only reach the scene by boat.The Army also sent a helicopter to participatein the rescue operation.
