Israeli Military advances amidst intense urban warfare in southern Gaza

New Delhi, Dec 9: The Israeli military engages in fierce house-to-house combat, referencing the intricate tunnel network employed by Hamas. Tanks encircle the key city of Khan Younis from the east and north, prompting mass evacuations to coastal areas and Rafah. Saturday’s toll reaches approximately 50 casualties in the central and southern Gaza Strip, with the health ministry unable to confirm northern fatalities.

Israeli forces steadily advance towards Jalal Street, a crucial artery leading to the city centre. The IDF reports ground clashes near a school in Shujaiya, claiming to eliminate all Hamas gunmen.

Subsequent searches uncover weaponry and the discovery of a tunnel shaft, part of an extensive underground route. Helicopters target Hamas fighters with anti-tank missiles in Shujaiya and engage in a gunfight near Beit Hanoun along the Israel-Gaza boundary.

Despite mounting calls to minimize civilian casualties, the Israeli offensive persists. A video released by Hamas showcases the aftermath of an unsuccessful Israeli hostage rescue operation, ending with images of a purported captive’s lifeless body. The IDF contends that psychological warfare is at play and confirms two soldiers’ serious injuries without any successful hostage release.

Jabalia refugee camp in the north faces encirclement, leaving thousands stranded without sustenance for days. The dire humanitarian situation prompts residents to send distress messages, reporting a lack of aid since the ceasefire in northern Gaza and Gaza City.
