‘Srinagar Master Plan to be finalised next month’

Authorities are in the process of finalising much-awaited Srinagar Master Plan, with housing and urban development department (H&UDD) examining recommendations to be incorporated in the final plan.

An official said a sub-committee headed by deputy commissioner Srinagar has submitted its recommendations to the panel headed by commissioner secretary, H&UDD.

“Though chief secretary had given one month time for finalising the master plan, the governor later directed officials to redress various queries raised by civil society members as well as locals regarding the plan document,” the official said adding that commissioner secretary-led committee was now examining the suggestions approved by the sub-committee.

Chief town planner, Kashmir, Fayaz Ahmad Khan said around 350 suggestions were received on draft master plan which was put in public domain last year. The DC-led committee was tasked to examine these suggestions.

“It won’t take more than two week’s time to finalise these suggestions, “he added.

The High Court had in August directed government to finalise Master Plan (2017-2035) with utmost ‘urgency’ and place date of notification before it within three weeks.

The government has faced stiff opposition to the proposal of shifting civil secretariat to Nowgam, under the rpospsoed Master Plan, forcing it to put on hold the proposal. A top official said there were some “more hurdles” which had delayed finalisation of the plan document.
