Prominent surgeon among 19 COVID deaths in J&K

A prominent surgeon in Kashmir succumbed to COVID19 today, while 18 others also lost life to the virus. 975 people tested positive, the cumulative total reaching 78228 of which 1250 have succumbed.

A 69 year old senior surgeon admitted at SKIMS Soura for the past 3 days died today. The surgeon, a resident of Buchpora Srinagar, was admitted with bilateral pneumonia, a doctor working at the hospital said. He said despite efforts, his condition did not improve. “He tested positive on 01 October and his condition deteriorated fast,” he said.

   

A 45 year old male from Rainawari Srinagar admitted at SMHS Hospital with acute respiratory distress also passed away today. He had tested positive for the viral infection on 22 September, a doctor at the hospital said adding that

the patient did not have any underlying disease. Two more people from Srinagar fell to COVID19 in the 24 hours period to Saturday evening. They were a 65 year old female from Maharajgunj admitted at SMHS Hospital and an 85 year old male from Brien Nishat admitted at Chest Diseases Hospital.

The other casualties reported today were a 65 year old male from Pakherpora Budgam admitted at Chest Diseases Hospital, a 74 year old male from Langate Kupwara admitted at SKIMS Soura, a 62 year old male from Amirabad Pulwama admitted at SKISM Medical College Hospital Bemina and A 60 year old male from Sumbal Bandipora admitted at SMHS Hospital.

In Jammu, 11 people were reported to have died in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile 975 people tested positive for COVID19 today. Of these,  384 were from Kashmir division.

A heath official said that in Kashmir, 168 people that tested positive today were symptomatic. He said that 68 samples that had been taken randomly were found positive. The process of random sampling, he said, was going on across districts. The official said out of the 384 positives, nearly 200 had been detected through Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT).

In Srinagar, 150 people tested positive today. These included 8 travelers. The total reported cases in the district has reached 15376, of which 13099 have recovered and 1978 are yet to recover.

In other districts, the number of positive cases today were: Budgam 43, Baramulla 32, Pulwama 39, Anantnag 28, Bandipora 22, Kupwara 52, Ganderba 10, Kulgam 2 and Shopian 2.

In Jammu, 591 cases were reported today, of which 30 were travelers.

Today, 1399 people recovered from the infection, the total recovered 61531 now.
