Reiterating that Kashmir is a political issue and needs a political solution, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday stated that announcing mega developmental projects will never help in making peace permanent in Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement was issued by the party’s General Secretary,Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, during a daylong workers’ convention in Srinagar’sZadibal constituency.
Terming the present situation in Kashmir as worrisome,Hanjura said, “A holistic and pragmatic approach is needed to restore peace andnormalcy in the otherwise strife torn region. For that the best solution iswhat the PDP has been advocating since decades, which include dialogue,reconciliation and confidence building measures. Iron first approach has neverdone any good to the people and such policy is bound to fail in the futurealso.”
He also stressed for greater coordination between workersand the leadership.
PDP’s Srinagar district President, Mohammad Khurshid Alam,also pitched for dialogue and reconciliation, terming them as the need of thehour. “If the government continues with its iron-fist policy, the space forpolitics, diplomacy and dialogue will get squeezed further,” he said.
Other senior PDP leaders who were present on the occasionincluded Aga Syed Mohsin, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Abdul Hameed Kosheen, MuntazirMohi-ud-din, Dr Ali Mohammad, Arif Laigaroo, Abul Hassan, Mohammad ShafiKundangar, Abdul Qayoom Bhat and Manzoor Ahmad Matoo, among others.
