Jhelum water transport to start from June 28

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today said that the government will start the water transport in river Jhelum from 28th June.

 The Divisional commissioner made this direction in an extensive meeting with senior officers from across the Kashmir to review the steps taken to streamline the traffic in the Kashmir division.

   

The meeting was informed that Irrigation & Flood Control had made a proposal of Rs 2.20 crores for the construction of additional river ghats while as Rs 35 lacs for the repair of old river ghats. The process of estimation for the lightening of river ghats was already completed by PDD. The day service of water transport will be started on the said date.

The divisional commissioner directed DC Srinagar, Tourism, JKTDC and Irrigation and Flood Control departments to finalize the route wise rates for the water transport in river Jhelum within four days so that the service will be started on 28 June without any difficulty.

It was further informed that UEED had made a proposal of sewage treatment Plant for Raj Bagh at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crores while as from Fateh Kadal to Zaina Kadal at Rs 10 crores respectively.

Reviewing the progress of road marking, installation of signages and mobile toilets, he directed concerned officers to submit a complete report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office within a week.

During the meeting a proposal submitted by traffic advisor to Government was also discussed, to which divisional commissioner said that government has marked two days a week (Saturday & Sunday) for ‘Pedestrian Show’ which means that vendor market will remain open on these two days from TRC to Exhibition Ground. In these days no traffic will ply on these routes.
