Govt prolonging detention of political prisoners in jails: NF

Jammu and Kashmir National Front (NF) today alleged that the government was deliberately prolonging the detention of Kashmir political detainees.

“Though nothing is being proved against the Kashmiri political prisoners who are languishing in different jails of the state and outside, the Government of India is leaving no stone unturned to prolong the incarceration of these prisoners including NF chairman Nayeem Khan. The prisoners, even suffering from different ailments, are denied proper medical treatment,” a NF spokesman said.

“The ailing leaders imprisoned in Tihar and other jails, are denied medical aid despite serious ailments putting their lives to danger. They include Nayeem Khan, Shabir Shah, Dr Muhammad Qasim, Dr Shafi Sharyati, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Masarat Aalam Bhat, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahamad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Syed Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahamad Dar, Shahid Yousaf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahamad Watali, Asiya Andrabi, Fahmeedah Sofi, Naheedah Nasreen and others,” the spokesman said.

Terming the plight of Kashmiri prisoners in different jails as ‘alarming’, the spokesman stressed upon the human rights organisations to play their role in getting the Kashmiri prisoners out of the jails.
