Soldier injured in Rajouri landmine blast

An army soldier was injured when an improvised explosive device accidentally went off along the Line of Control in Jammu, officials said, even as situation along the international border in Kathua district of the province remained tense due to exchange of fire between the armies of India and Pakistan.

An official said Pakistani rangers allegedly targeted a JCB machine which was working to repair a fence near a border outpost in Chandawn area at Hiranagar sector.

   

He said the Border Security Force personnel manning the post retaliated effectively after which Pakistan stopped firing for a while.

“No loss of human life or property was reported in the brief exchange of fire,” said the official. Meanwhile, at the Line of Control, a solider of army’s JAKLI unit was injured after he accidently stepped on a landmine in a forward Keri Lalyali area in Khour-Akhnoor area in Rajouri district at around 12.50 pm, a police source said.

The injured solider was evacuated to military hospital Udhampur and identified as rifleman Shankar Singh.

A few weeks ago, an army major and a solider were killed in an IED blast along the LoC in Rajouri district.

Meanwhile, forces launched intensive searches in several villages of Mendhar area in Poonch district on Monday.
