State level Calligraphy workshop begins at Chadoora

With an aim of creating awareness about the latest advancements in the calligraphy art among budding calligraphers of state, a 15 days state level urdu calligraphy workshop was inaugurated at Chadoora on Thursday. The workshop is being organized by Sheikh ul Aalam Calligraphy and cultural organization in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) New Delhi. The programme was inaugurated by noted urdu scholar Prof Zaman Azurdah at Aglow Educational Institute Chadoora Budgam.

While addressing the participants Prof Zaman Azudrah saidthat there is an urgent need to create awareness about urdu calligraphy artamong the new generation as people of Kashmir have an emotional attachment withthe art that has been introduced in Kashmir many centuries ago by reveredIslamic scholars of central Asia. He said that urdu language is at the verge ofextinction and needs to be promoted and calligraphy is one of the ways that canhelp create awareness about urdu language.

   

Noted scholar of fine arts and former Dean at Jamia MilliaIslamia Prof Zargar Zahoor presided over the function. He spoke about role ofcolours and human behavior. Among others who spoke on the occasion includedProf Bashar Bashir, SDM Chadoora Aziz Ahmad, Dr Gazanffar Ali, Dr SyedIfthikar, Mohiudeen Ajiz, Mohammad Yasin Bhat and Gulzar Ahmad Bhat.

Speakers hailed the role of budding calligrapher MohammadHussain, Chairman of Sheikh ul Aalam Calligraphy and cultural organsiation inpromotion of calligraphy art in the area. Social Activist and Chairman RTIMovement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat while giving vote of thanks urged uponorganisers to hold such workshops for younger generation especially the schoolchildren.
