Kargil: Two cops of Ladakh police were allegedly assaulted by some miscreants in Leh on Sunday evening, causing serious injuries to both of them, officials said.
The policemen belong to Kargil district of Ladakh and are posted in Leh. They have been identified as Sub Inspector Mohammad Jani and Head constable Ghulam Rasool.
Police officials said that the incident happened when a police party of police station Leh had gone to a place in connection with a reliable information that some miscreants have indulged in infighting with a person and creating noisy scenes. As they reached the spot, some persons assaulted the policemen in darkness and leaving them seriously injured.
The injured policemen were taken to the nearby SNM hospital where from one critically injured policeman was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan told Greater Kashmir that the patient was brought in a critical condition and is being treated.
Superintendent of Police Leh PD Nitya told Greater Kashmir that the police have taken cognizance of the incident and a case has been registered. “ We have taken cognizance of the incident, adding that the accused have been identified,” SP said. She further said that so far eight accused have been identified who are absconding adding that police has launched a manhunt to nab and arrest all the accused.
“The incident is being taken seriously and people are requested to share any details about the accused whose photos are being circulated,” SP said. He said that a case vide FIR No 123 under section 147,148, 336,332 and 307 IPC has been registered. The officer said that the accused are also involved in other crimes.
The incident has triggered anger and outrage among various political, religious, and social organizations, as well as activists in Kargil who have condemned the incident and demanded stern action against the culprits.
