Terrorism a challenge but utilising all resources to keep society free of terror: SSP Baramulla

Baramulla, Feb 8: Amid the challenges of terrorism, security agencies in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have intensified their efforts to maintain peace and enable a fear-free environment for the people.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpure said that terrorism was a concern for the security agencies but they were utilising all resources to keep the society fear-free, violence-free, and terror-free.

“We are utilising all our resources to ensure that the society is fear-free and the people can exercise their liberties without any fear,” he said. Nagpure said that Jammu and Kashmir has maintained a “very close” eye on suspicious people and whoever tries to disturb the peace would be taken to task legally.

About the infiltration attempts made by the terrorists from across the border, he said, “Our forces on the border be it Indian Army, Border Security Forces (BSF), or J&K Police, all are alert and all attempts will be mitigated and thwarted proportionately.”

During 2023, the security forces in the north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Baramulla thwarted seven infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) till October.

These operations resulted in the elimination of 16 foreign terrorists including the killing of two terrorists on October 21, 2023, while two bodies were recovered along LoC on November 15, 2023, during Operation Kaali in which a joint effort between the Army and J&K Police successfully thwarted an infiltration bid in the Uri sector along the LoC.

“We are maintaining a close watch on the activities of suspicious individuals like instigators and mobilisers, who want to disturb peace in the society,” the SSP Baramulla said.

He said that some people were putting in efforts because Pakistan was bent upon disturbing peace in Kashmir and was using proxies to instigate people through social media and other platforms.

“But our surveillance is there. Whenever we get information about such characters we go for strict legal action against them,” Nagpure said.

Briefing about the activities of the hybrid terrorists in Baramulla town and outskirts, he said Pakistan-based handlers were making efforts to instigate common youth here and make them fall prey to the voices of terrorism.

“They are using all types of strategies and at times they use hybrid terrorists or use social media and other forms for instigation and radicalisation,” the SSP Baramulla said.

He said that J&K Police was aware of the types of attempts made by Pakistan-based handlers and despite attempts, they would not be able to succeed.

“I am sure people here are not ready to get instigated. We can see that from the relative peace prevailing on the streets here. People want to live peacefully and they are cooperating fully with Police and the government,” Nagpure said.
