Sweeper injured as old shell explodes inside school in north Kashmir’s Handwara

A sweeper was injured on Saturday after an old unexploded shell went off while he was cleaning a private school in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. 

Quoting official sources, news agency GNS reported that the sweeper identified as Reyaz Ahmad Ahanger son of Abdul Ahad Ahanger was cleaning the ‘Hillwill School’ when the shell went off, leaving him injured.

   

Reyaz was shifted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable, officials said.    

SP Handwara Dr GV Sandeep told GNS that an investigation into the incident has revealed that it was an old shell which exploded, leading to the injuries to the sweeper.

He said Reyaz is stable as of now.
