In Pictures: World’s Highest Railway Bridge in J&K, an Engineering Marvel In The Making

The bridge is designed to stand at 359 metres above the Chenab river bed, 30 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris with 267 metres span length. The bottom of the main arch of the bridge was completed recently by the Railways, which is executing the project. [Mir Imran/ GK]

   
Besides being an engineering marvel in the making, the imminent iconic architecture will also bridge ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) aimed at connecting Kashmir with rest of India. [Mir Imran/ GK]

The 272 km Udhampur-Baramulla rail link is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 28,000 crore as per officials.  [Mir Imran/ GK]

Given its importance, the railway line was declared a national project in 2002 and is expected to be commissioned by December 2022. The under construction bridge lies on Katra-Banihal section which is 111 kilometres long. [Mir Imran/ GK]

The construction of the arch of the world’s highest railway bridge was completed on Monday, April 5th, with the Northern Railways terming the achievement a milestone. [Mir Imran/ GK]
