CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, MY Tarigaami castigated the J&K Government for its ‘failure’ to generate employment for the educated unemployed youth particularly the artisans of the Kashmir.
Speaking during the discussion on grants for Industries and Commerce Department, Tarigmai said Srinagar district had more population of artisans who have now virtually became “beggars”.
“We have emotional attachment with this sector and it is part of Kashmiri so government should pay special attention for its revival and provide incentives to people associated with it,” he said.
“We can’t talk of big industrial units in state but even small units are dead in Kashmir. Even if Jammu is fast in it but they also don’t have industrial units,” he said.
Make-In-India a non-starter in J&K: PC MLA
Ruling party Peoples Conference (PC) MLA from Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar said the central government’s initiative, ‘Make in India’ was a non-starter in J&K state.
“We have not moved a single step forward in Make in India programme in the state and Industries Department which can act as an alternative for educated unemployed youth to earn their livelihood has failed to do so,” PC MLA said.
Dar said Kupwara district comes under zero industrial area despite having potential for it.
“Kupwara marble industry was functional in my district earlier and had a good market value as well but now it is lying defunct,” he said, and asked the government to put in efforts to make the sector functional in the district.
“Government should also simplify the procedures for youth who want to start their initiatives in this sector,” he said.
