JKPM concerned over losses to farmers, orchardists in Bandipora, Lolab

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement leader Iqbal Rather has expressed concern over huge losses caused to paddy crop in Ajas area of Bandipora district due to incessant rains and flash floods during last two days.

According to a statement, he has urged the governoradministration to assess the quantum of damage immediately and provideex-gratia relief to the affected farmers.

   

Rather said that a vast area under paddy cultivation in variousareas of Ajas, Bandipora has got totally submerged due to incessant rains,causing massive damage to the paddy crop.

Demanding adequate Ex-gratia relief and compensation infavour of the affected families, JKPM leader enjoined upon the district administrationBandipora to depute joint teams of revenue, agriculture, relief andrehabilitation departments to the affected areas to assess the quantum oflosses caused due to the flash floods in the area.

“Scores of Kannals of land got submerged under flood waterin the Ajas area which has caused panic among the farmers,” Iqbal Rathersaid while demanding relief to the affected families whose livelihood has beencritically hit by the flood waters.

Meanwhile JKPM executive member FerozWani has called forimmediate assessment of the crop damage caused due to severe hailstorm invarious areas of Lolab Constituency including NagsaraiKalaroos, Surigam andKhurhama.

“There has been massive damage to crops and fruit treesin Lolab and farmers are in distress. Government should send teams forimmediate assessment of the damages and grant of compensation”, he added.
