Sharda University student on 3500-km bicycle expedition to save Sangai deer

Rohan Philem, a 23-year-old student in Sharda University, started his bicycle expedition from Sharda University in Greater Noida on Tuesday with the intent to aware people about the endangered Sangai deer found in Manipur.

Sangai deer is an endemic and endangered subspecies of brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur, India. Now, Rohan will be covering 3500-km distance from Sharda University to his home state Manipur in 35 days. Upon asking about his inspirations behind such initiative, Rohan said,” I believe awareness can make greater impacts. This ride is with the aim to make people aware about the fragile environment and endangered Sangai deer in Manipur. My grandfather served as a forest guard protecting the Sangai deer and I promised to make him feel proud one day”.

Rohan will be visiting schools and colleges during his ride and will address the issue to students. He is of the opinion that such programme can really make an impact among the citizens. Sharda University has provided a new plaform to him and helped him in his aim to make people aware about the endangered Sangai deer. Previously,  Rohan has completed two other bicycle expeditions from Delhi to Manipur and Manipur to Kolkata covering a distance of 2800-km and 1700-km respectively.
