Accused in Doda school blast case flees police custody

An accused in school blast case in Doda district fled from police custody on Wednesday.

The accused was detained by police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with school blast case at Shiva village of the district.

   

Earlier this week, in a low intensity blast inside government school at Shiva village, principal and three staff members were injured. The blast was first assumed to have occurred due to short circuit; however forensic report confirmed explosives were used in the blast.

As per senior police official, who wished anonymity said SIT detained two persons including class IV employee of the school and another local from Shiva village for questioning.

The duo was identified as Tanveer Ahmed and Mir Din, both residents of Shiva. “… during wee hours, one of the accused (Tanveer Ahmed) on the pretext of going to urinal came out of lock-up. He took advantage of darkness, and fled from the washroom located outside the police post, he said. Meanwhile, police has launched  a manhunt to track the accused, while inquiry has been initiated against three police officials for dereliction of duties, he added.
