Police organize debate competition

Kishtwar, Jan 3: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday organized a district-level debate completion on ‘life with drugs or livable life’ at Kishtwar.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of senior superintendent of police, Kishtwar, Rajinder Kumar Gupta, here at Police Headquarters.

   

During the competition, around 16 participants spoke on the topic. The participants included students, youth, senior citizens, police officers, security personnel and civil administration officers.

“In view of the public demand against the eradication of drugs and on the instructions of the director general of police, police has recently adopted a two pronged strategy for the eradication of drugs from Kishtwar district. The strategy includes legal action against the drug peddlers, which includes registration of cases under NDPS Act and action under preventive provisions of law, and creating awareness among the public against drug abuse,” an officer said.

District development commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana, was the chief guest on the occasion. He, in his address, appealed to the public to desist from drugs and advised parents and teachers to maintain a strict vigil on their wards and students, so that they stay away from bad company.

The jury for the debate competition included Faisal Mushtaq Kichloo, Dr Sajid and Rajinder Singh.

Out of the 16 participants, 11 were girl students. Renum Fatima, a 10th class student of SDM Public Higher Secondary School, stood first, while Annika Thakur, a 10th class of SDM Public Higher Secondary School, and Suhani Aryan, a 12th class student of Girl Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, were adjudged second and third, respectively.
