Srinagar, Mar 25: The J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) has notified a schedule for the lifting of textbooks from the board office which would be followed by the distribution of the textbooks in schools across Kashmir.

As per the schedule notified by BOSE, the lifting of free textbooks for school children would commence from March 27 from the BOSE office for district Shopian and Srinagar which would continue for Srinagar on March 28 as well.

The schedule has been notified given the commencement of the academic session 2024-2025 from class 1st onwards from April 1.

As per the schedule, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Budgam has been communicated to lift the free supply of textbooks on March 30 and 31.

The textbooks would be distributed to the teams of Pulwama and Ganderbal districts on March 31 and April 1.

The schedule would continue till all the teams from all the districts and zones lift the free supply of textbooks from the BOSE office for their distribution at the cluster level and then to schools.

The schedule was notified by the BOSE amid hue and cry over the non-availability of textbooks in schools due to the delay in distribution of the books by the BOSE.

The schools said that the classwork would start across Kashmir and the textbooks should have been sent to schools in advance.

“When the government ensured that the teachers should report to schools a week in advance post-winter vacation of schools, similarly the focus should have been for advance distribution of textbooks in schools,” said a teacher wishing not to be named.

The teachers urged the concerned CEOs and the BOSE authorities that the textbooks should be distributed to schools based on enrollment so that no students get deprived of the facility.

“During previous years, we have seen that the schools do not get the textbooks as per the enrollment which causes inconveniences to the students,” the school teacher said.

“Not only this, but we have observed during previous years that a student never gets a complete set of textbooks. One or two textbooks remain pending which are never supplied later,” he said.
