CJ administers oath of office to Justice Wani

Srinagar, Mar 25: Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice N Kotiswar Singh administered the oath of office to Justice Muhammad Yousuf Wani as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, in the Chief Justice’s courtroom here Monday.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended at Srinagar by Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Justice Sanjay Dhar, Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Justice Rahul Bharti, Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal and virtually from Jammu by Justice Atul Sreedharan, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Puneet Gupta, Justice Muhammad Akram Chowdhary, and Justice Rajesh Sekhri.

   

The proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony were conducted by the Registrar General of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh,

Shahzad Azeem, who read the contents of the notification received from the Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice (Appointments Division) and the Warrant of Appointment issued by the President of India and the Letter of Authorisation issued by the Lieutenant Governor, J&K, authorising the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, to administer the oath of office to the newly-appointed judge.

The ceremony was also attended by former judges of the High Court, Advocate General, J&K, Deputy Solicitor General of India, Srinagar, Secretary, Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, District Judges posted at Srinagar headquarters, members of various Bars, officers of civil and Police administration, and officers and staff of Registry and Member Secretary, Legal Service Authority, J&K.
With the elevation, the strength of judges of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh has risen to 16 including the Chief Justice.

Born in the village Brenti Batapara, Dialgam, of the south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Muhammad Yousuf Wani got his initial education from Government High School Brentis and did his graduation in Science subjects from Government Degree College Anantnag.

He did his LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Kashmir in 1989 and enrolled as an advocate in 1990.

He practised as a lawyer in different courts at Anantnag from 1990 to 1996. He passed the KCS (Judicial) Examination of the J&K Public Service Commission as a judge permanently since December 1997.

He joined his services as Munsiff Sumbal in 2000 and as a district judge in 2008.

During his service tenure, he remained posted as Munsiff Sumbal Sonawari, Sub Judge Uri, Chief Judicial Magistrate Shopian and Budgam, Additional Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar, Additional District Judge Baramulla, Principal District and Sessions Judge Pulwama, Ganderbal, Budgam, and Baramulla.

He also remained posted as Registrar Judicial of High Court Srinagar, President District Consumer Protection Forum Srinagar, and Presiding Officer MACT Srinagar.

He was posted as a Member Judicial Special Tribunal Srinagar.

He disposed of thousands of civil and criminal cases during his tenure.

Wani’s father, late Ghulam Muhammad Nabi Wani was a dedicated and noble teacher, who was the main person behind the achievement of Wani.
