J&K students stranded in Tehran demand evacuation

A group of over 30 students studying at the Tehran Medical University in Kish Island in Iran have made a fervent appeal for their evacuation in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown. The students said they were awaiting screening for a month now and demanded their evacuation, saying the situation was turning worse with each passing day.

The students also released a video, in which they allegedthat Indian Embassy was not giving any positive response to their demand forevacuation. “We are 33 students here and are crying for evacuation. But theIndian embassy is not giving any positive response,” a girl student in thevideo said.

   

The student said the prevailing situation has left themdepressed. “We are not able to do anything. Our parents back home are worriedfor our safety and the situation here is getting worse every day,” said anotherstudent.

They in the video appealed to the Jammu and Kashmiradministration for facilitating their evacuation.

Meanwhile, Iltija Mufti daughter of former Chief MinisterMehbooba Mufti who is operating the official Twitter handle of Mehbooba soughtintervention of Indian Embassy in Iran to facilitate the screening of Kashmiristudents.

“Requesting @India_in_Iran @MEAQuery @DrSJaishankar tokindly intervene and facilitate screening of these students,” she tweeted.

The parents of these students also sought intervention ofJ&K government to start process for evacuation of their kids.

“The Bangladesh students who had to return to theirrespective hostels from West Bengal are facing unbearable difficulties due tolockdown and are now feeling helpless and lonely,” a parent said.
