Kashmir’s youngest COVID19 victim, sibling recover

It was a happy ending today for the ordeal of a family whose three members tested positive for COVID19 in March when two of their children, including a four year old, were given a warm send-off from the hospital they were admitted at.

Healthcare staff of JLNM Hospital today discharged twosiblings, four and seven year old after they tested negative for COVID19. “Twotests were conducted on each girl in a span of 24 hours. Both came negativeafter which they were discharged from the hospital today,” Dr Tabasum, DeputyMedical Superintendent of the hospital said.

   

Their mother was also tested again and found un-infected.The two girls take the total recoveries to 10 in J&K, Government said.

The siblings had tested positive for the virus on 26 March,days after their grandfather had tested positive for COVID19. Their mother hadstayed put with the children while they were shifted to isolation ward of thehospital, without caring about getting infected. “How can the mother leave herlittle children into isolation ward alone,” a doctor working at the hospitalsaid. Later, the mother was provided personal protective equipment to save herwhile she took care of her daughters.

Nodal Officer JLNM Hospital, Dr Bilquees Shah said the staffof the hospital handed over bouquets to the “two little warriors” who foughtCOVID19 at the hospital. She said the staff was highly appreciative of themother, who despite being COVID19 negative did not leave the children alone fora day.

“We allotted a separate ward to the girls and alsocounselled them a lot. We told them not to touch surfaces. In order to preventany mental trauma, we gave them toys, crayons and drawing sheets fordistraction,” Dr Tabassum said. The girls will now spent 14 days in homequarantine and they will be counselled again if need arises, she said.

Principal secretary to Government Rohit Kansal lauded themother and the hospital staff. “Great news… Mubarak to the families andgratitude to the entire medical team,” he tweeted. Many congratulatory messageswere shared over social media for the health and well being of the siblings.

The family members, including four children, were put underquarantine at JLNM Hospital following the positive result of their grandparent,who had returned from Saudi Arabia. The family also had an eight month oldchild.

Currently, 20 patients of COVID19 are admitted at JLNMHospital, Dr Shah said.

2 fresh COVID-19 cases in Ladakh:

Two more people tested positive for coronavirus in Ladakh,while one patient recovered on Monday, taking the total number of active casesin the union territory to five, officials said.

The total number of cases reported in the union territorystands at 17.

Of the fresh cases, one is reported from Sabu in Leh andanother from Shakar-Chiktan in Kargil. The patient who has been cured is fromKargil, he said, adding that his reports came on Sunday.
