Amit Shah affirms commitment to Jammu and Kashmir’s development, CAPFs Welfare

Srinagar, Feb 26: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs at Daman.

The meeting, attended by Minister of State for Home Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra, Sh Nishith Pramanik, 11 Members of the committee, senior officers, Chief Secretary of UT of Jammu & Kashmir, and Director General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles, addressed crucial issues concerning the development of Jammu and Kashmir and the welfare of CAPFs personnel.

   

In his address, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the comprehensive development of Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He underscored the transformative impact of the abrogation of Article 370 on the Union Territory, which has witnessed significant advancements across various sectors including power, agriculture, health, education, and tourism.

Highlighting the historic decision of August 6, 2019, Shah emphasized that the extension of constitutional safeguards, including progressive laws like Right to Education and National Minorities Commission Act, has fostered equality and fairness in Jammu and Kashmir.

He noted the successful implementation of initiatives such as reservation for economically backward classes and strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutions, which have positively impacted the lives of the region’s residents.

Moreover, Shah applauded the remarkable progress achieved in maintaining law and order and ensuring security in Jammu and Kashmir, with incidents of stone pelting and organized strikes becoming obsolete. He affirmed the Ministry of Home Affairs’ dedication to spearheading accelerated and inclusive development initiatives, empowering the people of Jammu and Kashmir to shape their future and realize new aspirations.

Transitioning to discussions on CAPFs, Shah commended the exemplary role played by these forces in upholding internal security and safeguarding the nation’s borders under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of CAPFs personnel and their families, highlighting initiatives such as Bharat Ke Veer, Ayushman CAPFs, and Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme.

In a significant announcement, Shah disclosed that from 2024, the Constable (General Duty) examination for CAPFs will be conducted in 13 regional languages, in addition to Hindi and English, aiming to enhance inclusivity and accessibility in recruitment processes. He also briefed the committee on the recruitment and promotion statistics within CAPFs, emphasizing the government’s efforts to provide employment opportunities and career advancement for personnel.

Furthermore, the meeting deliberated on various measures aimed at improving infrastructure, modernization, and housing satisfaction ratios within CAPFs, underscoring the government’s concerted efforts to enhance the quality of life for CAPFs personnel.
