Girl’s death at Handwara hospital quarter: 3 doctors suspended

Authorities today suspended three doctors at Handwara district hospital following death of a patient allegedly in a residential quarter there. 

Parents of the teenage girl, who died at Handwara district hospital today morning, accused doctors who were on duty of negligence. The girl’s death triggered protests by attendants and patients following which three doctors were placed under suspension. The medical superintendent of the hospital also ordered an enquiry to ascertain circumstances leading to the girl’s death.   

   

KulsoomaBano (16) daughter of Muhammad Abdullah Baba, resident of ShatigamHandwara, was admitted at the hospital vide MRD NO 1398-01 last night. 

“The doctors at the casualty directed me to shift the patient to residential quarter of a doctor who was on call. However, despite shifting her to the residential quarter, the concerned doctor twice sent the patient back to the casualty” alleged Muhammad Abdullah Baba, father of the deceased girl. 

“Finally after repeated requests, the doctor examined my daughter at his residential quarter, however she passed away there” he added. 

Medical superintendent district hospital Handwara, DrRauf, claimed that “she was a high risk patient and died due to cardiac arrest.” 

“The patient was properly examined and even her CT scan was done at the hospital. However, she died due to cardiac arrest on Saturday morning despite hard efforts by doctors to resuscitate her. We have initiated an enquiry into the incident and suspended three doctors till the enquiry is completed” he added.
