Army commander visits Kishtwar

Army commander Northern Command Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh on Saturday exhorted upon police and civil administration to synergise their efforts to defeat attempts of anti-national elements to revive militancy in Jammu region, Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.

Singh visited hinterland bases and posts in Kishtwar toreview the security situation after the killing of RSS leader and his personalsecurity officer by suspected militants recently.

   

Accompanied by White Knight Corps Commander, LieutenantGeneral Paramjit Singh, Singh was briefed by the commanders on ground about thecurrent operational situation, prevailing security scenario and thepreparedness of the formations.

“Interacting with Police and Civil Administration officials,Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh exhorted police and civil administration fortheir synergized efforts to defeat attempts of anti national elements to revivemilitancy in the region,” the spokesperson said.

Singh was also briefed on the formations role in maintainingconducive environment for successful conduct of recently held parliamentaryelections.

He was also briefed on the aggressive domination of area ofresponsibility being exercised by the troops to thwart the nefarious designs ofthe anti national elements, the spokesman said and added that Lt Gen Singhappreciated the measures and standard operating procedures instituted by theunits and formations in their area of responsibility to maintain peace andstability in the region.

“General Singh complimented the army, police and the civiladministration for efficiently handling security situation in Kishtwar townarising after the recent killings and also appreciated the role of citizens, religiousheads and people of Kishtwar for maintaining communal harmony,” thespokesperson said.

On April 9, suspected militants killed Rashtriya SwayamsewakSangh leader Chanderkant Sharma and his personal security officer (PSO) insidea hospital in the Kishtwar district, prompting the administration to imposecurfew in the town.
