Day 12 of hunger strike: Striking teachers to hold candle light march at Sgr, Jmu on Sept 11

The ongoing indefinite chain hunger strike by teachers entered in  12 th day demanding implementation of 7th pay commission and redressal of other issues, here on Monday.

In connection with the strike call given by Teachers’ joint Action Committee (TJAC), a large number of teachers assembled here at press club, held protest and raised slogans in support of their demands.  

   

Meanwhile a state level emergency meeting of Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC) was held at Srinagar under the chairmanship of EJAC president, Abdul Qayoom Wani were it was decided that besides continuing with hunger strike, a candle light march will be taken out by striking employees from Pratap park to Raj Bhawan at Srinagar on September 11, while as in Jammu the candle light march shall be held at press club under the leadership of Ganesh Khajuria and Vinod   Sharma.

The members also said that keeping in view the larger interest of the students in particular and the common people in general, TJAC leadership decided to change its programme of demonstration on working days and decided to hold mass demonstration on Sunday (September 16). 

The leaders said, “This day will be observed as mega demonstration day and solidarity day with SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters for the resolution of their demands”, and appealed all the teachers irrespective of their cadre and position to attend the mega demonstration in order to show solidarity with teaching fraternity. 

Wani said that our demands are legitimate and there is no moral or legal ground for government  to delay in implementing 7th pay commission in favour of SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters besides linking their salary with state sector .

TJAC leaders further said  , “We do not want to close the schools and come on roads if government  fails to understand the sensitivity of the issues, we will first consult the parents and students organization ,civil societies, trade union, religious organizations, journalists, legal luminaries, literally organizations and shall take them on board to use this last  option. 

Gazi Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Akbar Khan, Riyaz ur Rehman,Mohammad Rafiq Rather ,Shah Fayaz, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Saleem Sager ,Peer Nisar Ahmad, Qayoom Sanayi, Hayat Qayoom, Parvaiz Iqbal Shah, Showkat Ali Beigh, Arsalan Habib , Mushtaq Ahmad ,Syed Meshaq and Javid Iqbal were also present on the occasion.
