Pakal Dul will resolve power crisis in J&K permanently: PM

Prime Minister NarendraModi wrapped up his 14 hour hectic one day Jammu and Kashmir visit with a promise to put the state on the path of development and progress.

“To deal with development and employment, our government has chalked a new approach. We are focusing on Jammu and Kashmir and North East,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a gathering here.

He said, “This day is very important in history of Jammu and Kashmir and this is my fourth function of the day. From the highest peaks of Ladakh to Kashmir and now to Jammu.”

Speaking on Pakal Dul power project the Prime Minister said, “Once completed the power crisis in the state and neighbouring states would get resolved permanently. This project alone would generate three times more power than the capacity of all projects in the state.”

He said the PakalDul project would create direct employment for 2500 persons and would prove beneficial for business community also.

The Prime Minister said that Jammu Ring Road would bring development in the areas it would pass through and would also prove helpful for the people and the soldiers. “The development projects in the state will turn J&K into rising stars of new India. Jammu and Kashmir would show the path of development to rest of the nation,” he said.

He also praised Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) for providing facilities to the pilgrims. He said religious pilgrimage is backbone of state’s economy.  Meanwhile, Modi said Jammu and Kashmir has the potential not only to generate electricity to meet its own needs, but also to provide power to other parts of the country.

The government is making efforts to ensure that all households in the state are electrified, as the focus is to improve the existing power distribution system, the prime minister said.

“Jammu and Kashmir has many rivers that have potential for electricity generation. This state has the potential not only to meet its own requirements, but can also produce power for the rest of the country,” he said.
